MATEPWENDE SAPPHIRE

TANZANIA'S EXCITING NEW BLUE SAPPHIRE SOURCE- A NEW CHAPTER FOR EAST AFRICA GEMS. In early 2024, a sapphire rush began near the village of Matepwende in Southern Tanzania. GIA researchers visited the deposit in June 2024 and documented a newly dsicovered source producing blue sapphire with some material of fine quality suitable for faceting.
