Mogok remains mysterious and mythical to the world many decades after fame of its precious stones -- highly coveted ruby, sapphire and spinal -- reach the high societies of New York, London, Tokyo, Shanghai, Dubai and more. Too important for the international gemstone market to ignore, but too difficult for the global traders to make a visit there, Mogok keeps its unique identity to this day.
Surrounded by steep mountain ranges, miles-long underground caves, thick jungles and scattered terrace paddy fields, and accessible only by hours of drive along the narrow mountain road, it is hardly visited by locals from big cities nor the foreigners.
Limited available hotel/motel rooms, travel restrictions, various check points along the way do not help welcome the potential visitors either. Limited internet access within Mogok further minimize the pictures and information outflow from this mysterious and mythical place to the world.
The Mogok Club arrive in Mogok, well hidden under the low rain clouds, one October afternoon for one of our regular trips to meet our local friends and partners. We are sharing some of the pictures here with you.
East Mogok
Older and more affluent (compared to West Mogok), East Mogok is built around the beautiful lake where locals spend the weekends and evenings with family and friends. Hilltop pagodas, motels, restaurants and night market are all within the walking distance from the lake.

Local Gemstone Market
Lively local gemstone market operates from 9am till noon each morning. This is where regular sellers and traders meet. This is also where new faces in town are immediately recognized by the local sellers. This is the first step towards long-lasting friendship and trust, Mogok way.
